The Dream Clinic that I organized in Union Square Park, in Manhattan, on Sunday, March 26, 2006 was a resounding success! Many thanks to our brave dream workers who came out to conduct this bold experiment where we provided a forum for complete strangers to discuss the wondrous world of dreams. Our intrepid dream activists left the safety of their private dream groups and exposed themselves literally to the elements (an unpredictable weather that kept raining on and off) as well as individuals who gave us strange looks for advocating dreams. Andrew, a NYU film student taped the event as part of his documentary on dreams.

I was completely surprised by the success of our dream activism. The words that come to my mind are “Disbelief and Astonishment!” We have taken dream activity to whole another level. Using the Lightning Dream Technique, we successfully engaged total strangers in the unpredictable energy of the New York City streets and asked them to share their dreams.

We heard amazing and unusual dreams from members of the public – Dreams of connecting to nature, to communicating with animals, to adventures in the sea. We heard from a musician who is inspired by his dreams everyday to create music and he played his guitar for us. We heard dreams of transformation and transfigurations, shape shifting, and dreams of power animals.

By exposing ourselves to such unpredictable energy we learned a lot of the commonalty of the dream world. Even though our individual dreams are different – the messages are universal. I personally found this experience very transforming. It took a lot of effort to get an official permit from the New York City Parks and Recreation as well as setting up for an unpredictable event. However, I am so awed by the results that I would definitely like to do it again!

There will be other Dream Clinics scheduled in May and June.
